Computers

You'll need a computer running Windows 2000 or XP or Vista to put your Gamry Potentiostat to work.  Click here for some general comments on computers to use with your Gamry Potentiostat.  Note that Gamry software is not compatible with the 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Vista.

If you wish, you can purchase a computer from Gamry.  We'll install the Potentiostat and the software and check it out as a unit.  When you receive it, attach the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and cell cable and start doing electrochemistry.  It costs a little more, but it's hard to beat the convenience.

You can install your Gamry Potentiostat in a desktop or notebook computer.  To run your Gamry Series G System from a notebook computer, use the eStation Portable Electrochemistry System.  The Reference 600 Potentiostat connects to the notebook computer through the USB interface.

HP dc7600

Pentium 4, 2.66 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, CD-RW, 1.44 Floppy, LCD Flat Panel Display, Mouse, 4 PCI slots, Microsoft Windows XP Pro, Microsoft Office Basic, 3 year warranty.

The HP dc7600 works nicely for either the Reference 600 or the Series G Potentiostats.

The eStation is a PCI expansion system that accepts either one or two Gamry Series G Potentiostats and interfaces to a notebook computer through the CardBus slot. The notebook should have a TI (Texas Instruments) or Topic100 CardBus Controller.

We can also provide an HP nx6110 Notebook Computer for use with either the eStation or the Reference 600.

Power for Your Portable Electrochemistry System

To power your eStation System in the field, we recommend using one or two marine batteries coupled with an inverter to convert the DC from the battery to AC.  Marine batteries are designed for deep discharge applications, so they will last longer than automotive batteries.  A good worldwide source of inverters is Tripp-Lite.

For more convenience, you can purchase a prepackaged solution from Xantrex.  For example, the XPower Powerpack 1500 supplies up to 1350 watts.  It includes a built-in inverter and is packaged in a cart for easy transport.  The unit can be easily recharged from a wall outlet.

Purchasing a Computer for Your Gamry System Outside the US

If you're purchasing a Gamry system outside of the US, it is probably best for support reasons to buy the computer locally.  If you're purchasing through a Gamry Distributor, the Distributor can provide the computer.  If you're in a country where we do not have a Distributor, it's still a good idea to buy the computer locally so you can be assured of support if the computer has a problem.  It's your decision and we'll be glad to help you in any way we can.
