OSU Autumn Corrosion Course 2026

Corrosion: Fundamentals and Experimental Methods (Autumn 2026)

The course will cover the fundamentals of corrosion and various electrochemical techniques. Lectures and laboratories will be used to illustrate how electrochemical techniques are applied, when they should be used, and how the various techniques can be integrated to solve complex problems. The course will be useful for people entering the corrosion field and for professionals looking for a refresher course.

Location: Virtual,
Date/Time: Monday, October 19, 2026 - Friday, November 20, 2026  12:00 AM - 11:59 PM

This Self-Paced option offers maximum flexibility for those who prefer to manage their own learning schedule over a longer period. Spanning five weeks, this format utilizes high-quality pre-recorded materials and comprehensive study guides that you can access at any time. It is a more affordable alternative that allows you to pause, rewind, and review complex concepts as needed, making it perfect for balancing your studies with other personal or professional commitments.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped to:

  • Analyze Mechanisms: Decipher the electrochemical and thermodynamic drivers behind metallic degradation.

  • Diagnose Profiles: Identify various corrosion forms—from uniform attack to localized pitting—and pinpoint root causes.

  • Engineer Mitigation: Evaluate and implement protective measures, including coatings, inhibitors, and cathodic protection.

  • Execute Measurements: Set up and interpret electrochemical tests to quantify corrosion rates and predict material lifespan.

Save $100 if registered and paid by September 28, 2026.

  • Course Completion: Students must attend and complete all sessions in the course to receive a certificate of completion.
  • Cancellation and Refund: If you cancel your registration no later than 3 weeks prior to your scheduled course, you will receive a full refund minus a $75 administrative fee. No refunds for cancellations made within 3 weeks of the scheduled start date.
