A sneak peak at updates

to Echem Analyst 2 (EA2)

Last year we laid the groundwork for the more advanced data analysis we’re planning. This included file merging, data overlay, and EIS batch fit options. As we added more flexibility to these tools, we realized that the original help document wasn’t going to properly support our roadmap for EA2. We’re happy to announce that the next release of EA2 will include an interactive help with videos (screenshot below).

In addition to the new help documentation, a few useful features are listed below. We’ve also knocked down dozens of existing bugs and have improved the analysis of eQCM data. We should note that some of these features have already found their way into the wild. Did you catch them?

  1. Merging pairs of files will be possible for calculating cycle time. It can also be used with other cyclic experiments.
  2. Improved Kramers-Kronig analysis following a paper by Schӧnleber et al. More details are provided with the new EA2 help.
  3. Seamless batch processing with the multiple active trace feature. This is especially powerful when analyzing multiple EIS spectra. Below, you can see a screenshot showing how three EIS curves are fit simultaneously using a battery impedance model. The three batch fits are displayed on top of the data (Red up arrow). The fit results are also collected into a unified batch fit tab (Blue down arrow). Active traces are shown in bold.

Please look forward to the upcoming release!

When was the last time you calibrated your instrument?

Calibration of your potentiostat is necessary. We recommend an annual calibration for every potentiostat, at minimum. Because of drifts of internal components over time, placement of the instrument in various environments, and slight differences in cable and cell geometry, your potentiostat's measurements may change slightly. For example, you should wait for your instrument to warm up to reduce the impact of thermal drift on calibration. This impact can show up as a larger offset error when measuring a small signal.
