A Gamry Bipotentiostat for Ring-Disk Applications

A Bipotentiostat controls the voltage and measures the current at two Working Electrodes immersed in an electrolyte, using only one reference electrode and one counter electrode.  Bipotentiostats are generally used with a Rotating Ring-Disk Electrode for studies under flow conditions that can be precisely described mathematically.

Two Gamry Potentiostats can be configured to function as a Bipotentiostat.  No hardware modification is required and the Potentiostats can easily be converted into "single cell" mode.  EIS can be performed with the Potentiostats as a Bipotentiostat or as stand-alone instruments.

A custom Explain script is needed to conduct the electrochemical experiments and is available at no charge from Gamry.  We also supply an external cable to link the two Potentiostats so that the timing of the data acquisition is synchronized.

In most cases, the voltage of the ring is held constant while the voltage of the disk is scanned, but other techniques are also available.
