Abstract

We report the modification of screen printed electrodes by simple electrodeposition of chitosan-gold nanocomposites and the application of the modified electrodes for the determination of trivalent chromium, Cr(iii), using differential pulse stripping voltammetry (DPSV) for the first time. The electrodes exhibited a significantly increased sensitivity compared to an unmodified screen printed electrode and allowed for the sensing of Cr(iii) ions with a linear range from 1 to 100 [small mu ]M and a limit of detection of 0.4 [small mu ]M. Besides, the electrodes were used for the determination of chromium in industrial wastewater and showed acceptable results. The disposable nature of the screen printed electrodes makes them attractive for the on-site analysis of Cr(iii) in environmental and biological samples.
