Instant Overview of Gamry Potentiostats
Reference Family: World-class performance...none better. The price is
a bit higher than the Series G.
Series G Family: World-class accuracy, precision, and current range, but
not as fast as the Reference Family. Perhaps the best value in the commercial potentiostat market.

Gamry has introduced the Reference 3000
Potentiostat/Galvanostat/ZRA. The Reference 3000 can handle a healthy
3 Amp current, so it's expected to develop a deep and lasting relationship with
astute battery developers! Like it's baby brother, the
Reference 600, the Reference 3000 offers
world-class performance in a small package. The Reference 3000 is rated
for an output of 3 Amps at ±15 V or 1.5 Amps at ±32 V.
Both
the Reference 600 and the Reference 3000 are blazingly fast,
whisper quiet, and talk to your computer through a USB port.
Compared to competitive instruments, the Reference 600 and
3000 are very compact, taking up less bench space and making portability a
reality.
The Series G 300and
the Series G 750 Potentiostats
are installed in the PCI slots of your Windows computer. The
Series G 300 and Series G 750 have a current output of 300 mA and 750 mA, respectively. They feature
nine current ranges and a noise specification of <20 µV rms. The Series Gs
have a current resolution of
1 fA and 2.5 fA, respectively, and share a voltage resolution
capability of 1 µV.
Like the Reference Family, the Series G Potentiostats are engineered to meet the
requirements of the Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations of the
European Union.

All Gamry
Potentiostats
use Sub-Harmonic Sampling and Digital Signal Processing techniques to
make EIS measurements up to 1013 ohms over a frequency
range of 10 µHz to
1 MHz (300 kHz for the Series G).
A Bipotentiostat can be easily configured from two
Gamry Potentiostats. No hardware modification is required and the
Potentiostats can be instantly converted to stand-alone Potentiostats.
The ability
of a potentiostat to accurately perform EIS is a serious technical issue,
because the potentiostat must make this measurement over a wide range of
frequencies on samples with a wide range of impedances. Nothing tests the
performance of a potentiostat like EIS. Gamry publishes an
Accuracy Contour Plot for
each of our Potentiostats so you can evaluate their AC performance and compare
them to other commercial potentiostats.
Choosing a potentiostat-software combination is relatively simple at Gamry. Every
Gamry Potentiostat works with every Gamry
software application package.
Choose your Potentiostat based on the current levels, scan rates in CV, and/or electrochemical impedances you
expect to encounter during your measurements. Choose your software based on the
electrochemical techniques you plan to use to accomplish your
application. If your application doesn't use a standard
electrochemical technique, give us a call and describe your experiment. We
can tell you quickly if we can use Open
Source Scripting to create a custom script to accomplish your task.

Gamry Software uses the Framework
and Echem Analyst as our software platform. This provides a
common look-and-feel to our software to lower the learning curve. As
a result, moving from one application to another is easy. The
Framework and Echem Analyst are the basis for Open
Source Scripting, our solution to the problem of inflexible
electrochemical software.
Use the chart above to find the
instrument that meets your application requirements. If you still have questions or
are unsure which instrument is right for you, contact an
electrochemist at Gamry regarding your application requirements.

Standard Features
|
|
|
- Earth-Ground
Isolation -
Gamry Potentiostats are designed for real-world applications. All Gamry
Potentiostats are fully isolated
(electrically) from the host computer's chassis ground, allowing
normal operation with earth-grounded cells. As a result,
Gamry Potentiostats function very well (and very safely!) in
autoclaves, with strain rate testers, and with grounded
structures. Caution: only one electrode in the cell can be
grounded.
- Portability -
All Gamry
Potentiostats were
designed to be used in the field as well as in a laboratory environment.
The Reference 600 and 3000 connects directly to a Notebook Computer with
the USB interface. Gamry Series G Potentiostats can be used with our
eStation Portable Electrochemistry
System and controlled with a Notebook Computer.
- Internal
EIS Capability - On-board
electronics allow Sub-Harmonic Sampling for EIS
measurements from 10 µHz to 1 MHz for the Reference Family and 10 µHz
to 300 kHz for the Series G Potentiostats.
- Multiplexed
Potentiostats - Up to
eight Gamry Potentiostats can be controlled from one computer in
a MultEchem System.
The Potentiostats can be operated simultaneously and
independently of each other! For sequential measurements,
use an ECM8 Multiplexer. Unlike
competitve multiple-potentiostat systems, the MultEchem uses the
same software as our single Potentiostats, so you don't have to
familiarize yourself with new software.
- Small
Footprint - Gamry
does not manufacture BIG Potentiostats because our Engineers can
design
compact ones. Your bench space is valuable real
estate. The Reference 600 occupies a 10 cm x 30 cm
footprint. A Gamry Series G Electrochemistry
System occupies the same bench area as the computer to conserve
space. A Reference 3000 weights The performance and
reliability of a potentiostat is not proportional to the
volume or weight of the potentiostat! In most cases,
however, the price is proportional to the
volume or weight of the potentiostat! Smart
electrochemists use Gamry.
- Innovative Engineering - Gamry's modern electronic design and
extensive use of surface mount technology packs a lot of
capability onto a small area.
- Current Interrupt and
Positive Feedback iR Compensation - No need to rig your cells with supporting electrolyte
or geometric modifications anymore. Gamry Potentiostats and their controlling software use
control loop algorithms to accurately measure and correct for uncompensated resistance.
The PHE200 uses EIS to measure the uncompensated resistance!
- Auxiliary I/O - A Gamry Potentiostat
communicates easily with the outside world. All Gamry Potentiostats allow you
to control additional equipment via additional I/O interfaces.
1 Auxiliary Input for an external signal (e.g.,
thermocouple), saved with the data file.
1 analog output for cell Potential
1 analog output for cell Current
4 digital inputs
4 digital outputs
1 external signal generator input for fast CV
- Two-Year Warranty - Every
Gamry Potentiostat arrives at your lab with a two-year guarantee
of reliable operation...at no extra charge!
