| Mercury Electrodes |

| Mercury is
a very common electrode material. It can be employed as a Static Mercury Drop Electrode for
polarography,
or as a Hanging Mercury Drop Electrode for voltammetry or stripping
voltammetry. Because every mercury drop is a fresh, new
electrode surface, the reproducibility of mercury is much better
than other electrodes. Mercury, of course, can be toxic if
handled improperly, which is a major strike against it. Gamry does not manufacture a mercury electrode, but our PHE200 Physical Electrochemistry Software and PV220 Pulse Voltammetry Software support various commercial mercury electrodes. The Static Mercury Drop Electrode and the Controlled Growth Mercury Electrode are examples of general purpose mercury electrodes.
