What is RSS and How Do I View Gamry's RSS Newsfeed?

RSS is a clever way of publishing content (or "newsfeed") from a website so that others can read it. You may have seen this button ( ) on a web page. It indicates that the information on that website is available via an RSS "feed." This feed is syndicated, meaning that it may be read using an RSS "reader program".

Why do you want to do subscribe to Gamry's newsfeed? Because...when we make a change to the Gamry website, we add the change to our RSS feed. If you subscribe to the RSS feed of Gamry's website, you can view the changes to the Gamry website when you open your news reader. There's no need to trudge through the Gamry website looking for new stuff. We come to you! Saves you a lot of time and you don't miss any changes to the websites that you care about.

It's also private. We don't know who has subscribed to our newsfeed and we don't know who is reading it at any given time.

Clicking the RSS icon will display a page of intimidating-looking HTML, which will probably not be useful to you. It is a way of presenting the web address ("URL") of the file that contains the syndicated information. You can read the information in this file with a "news reader".

There is a free news reader at http://www.rssreader.com/. A free reader is also available from Google and from Tristana.

To subscribe to Gamry's RSS feed, right-click on the button at the bottom of our home page. On the menu that appears when you right-click, select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location" and then paste it into "address bar" or "URL bar" of your RSS reader.

Alternatively, you can left-click on the button, then highlight and copy the http://www.gamry.com/gamry.rss from the Address line of the page that appears. Then paste it into "address bar" or "URL bar" of your RSS reader.

If you have installed the Yahoo Toolbar in your browser, you can automatically add our newsfeed to "My Yahoo" when you open our home page.

Firefox users will notice a "live bookmark" icon at the bottom of their screen when they open the Gamry homepage. Clicking it will add a bookmark to Gamry's newsfeed that is easily refreshed to give you the latest news.
